This super sweet 9-year-old Shih Tzu/Maltese from Hempstead Shelter is now in his foster home.

MAX landed at the shelter when his owner was evicted, and upon his seizure, it was discovered that he had been severely neglected. MAX was terribly matted, filthy, and so skinny, and his owner was arrested because of the condition he was found in. We aren't able to show you the before pictures until after the matter is resolved in court, but believe us, he was a hot mess! He is still quite skinny (weighs 7 lbs but should be 12 lbs), and his skin needs some TLC.

This boy is an absolute love and seems to love everyone he comes in contact with. Everyone at the shelter was very fond of him, and as he left he tail wagged as all his human shelter friends bid him farewell. It always amazes us how resilient and loving neglected and abused dogs can be!

We already know this boy is a gem, and we look forward to seeing him gain weight and flourish in our care. And then, we will find MAX his perfect forever home. We may change his name a bit or give him a middle name; we aren't quite sure yet, but for now, we just plan on letting him settle in and know he is loved.
